I give the Grain Store 7 lettuce filled burgers out of 10
The Grain Store is in Newcastle East, at the pointy end of town. Where you have beaches on one side and on the other the inlet to the ports where all the Cargo Ships and the like come in.
For the beer lovers, they have 21 craft beers on tap at any one time. Not only craft beers, but 100% independently owned and brewed Australian beers.
They have an extensive menu including Wings, Tacos, Pork Belly, Loaded Fries, Onion Rings, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Arancini. And that’s just some of the starters. It’s going to take a few visits to eat this menu dry.
They also do Pizzas, Burgers, Steaks, Salads, Fish, Chicken, all of the things.
This time I tried the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Pesto Aioli for starters.
These are Gluten Free as standard and now I don’t need GF but they were tasty. So much so they don’t even have a non Gluten Free version.
They’re a lighter skin than you might get at other places but delicious none the less.
I asked what the most popular burger was when ordering and I don’t think the guy was having the best day. Or just not that into it that day. He pointed at the Grain Burger on the menu and half mumbled something like “well that’s the grain burger.”
His sentence trailed off. I didn’t feel confident in his recommendation but I took it anyway.
The Grain Burger is waygu beef pattie, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red cheddar cheese, pickles, coney island mustard, and Grain Sauce.
These days a lot of burgers seem to not worry about salad items that much, especially tomato. This is a tasty burger though. It’s got the good meat, cheese, and pickles that a burger is defined by in the modern age. Then the taste is made a little lighter by a decent amount of lettuce and tomato.
It’s a really good burger.
Then for second course, hey I’m blogging, I sometimes need to go over the top and get what some might consider a second meal.
A very tasty little cheeseburger with a great serving of fries. Again, nice work Grain Store.
It also has a nice relaxed atmosphere about it, a place that you could spend the afternoon hanging out in. And a selection of board games while you do so, if you’re into that.
